Many Pastors, Preachers, and Teachers suggest passage memorization for spiritual growth and personal development. So, we’ll get you started with a message each month to meditate on, memorize, or share with your small group.
August 2008
" And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all. And they did all eat, and were filled. "
- Mark 6:41-42
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand, Monthly?
Have you ever questioned God's ability to provide for you? Sometimes it is hard to know in your heart that whatever you need (not want) will be provided for you by our Heavenly Father. Of course, that can sometimes go along with fulfilling our responsibilities as a Christian, which is why we sometimes question that God will provide for us. Have we done the things He has asked of us? But the Bible tells us that God's provisions are not just adequate, they are abundant. He doesn't provide just sometimes, but He provides for us always. God does not just provide for you, He provides for everyone. And His provision is not only physical, it is Spiritual too.
Jesus feeds five thousand a month...We can see all of these things about our God as we study the book of Mark, where the miracle of Jesus feeding the five thousand is described. Here at the Evansville Christian Life Center, we rely fully on God to provide what we need to feed five thousand a month. We do not purchase food and clothing, it is donated. We do not borrow to pay our utilities, our donors provide funds for that. And we do not have to constantly preach the Word to those who walk through the doors, because our volunteers and staff show Christianity through their actions and kind words. It is true that the Spirit in you, our donors and volunteers, is the only way we feed those in need. In this way, the body of Christ feeds five thousand a month at the Evansville Christian Life Center.
See, we believe that the Spirit prompts you to give abundantly when you see that there is a need. Not just enough to get by for a few days, but abundantly, so that your giving will impact many. God urges us to give as He gives.
We know that the Spirit keeps reminding you that there is always a need for service and giving. As the Body of Christ, we are acutely aware that God's people have needs every day. Thus, God ensures that we help Him provide all the time.
Similarly, we know that the Spirit shows you that He is not just providing in our own lives, but He is providing to everyone. There are many times that we look around to see the blessings coming forth in the lives of our friends and family. God provides for us to lend us comfort in knowing that we can provide for others in need.
The Spirit in you reaches out to others through your every-day living, your volunteerism, your words. We know God uses every Christian to not only spread His provision physically, but Spiritually. Giving others Spiritual hope and fulfillment is also a way that God provides not only physically, but Spiritually too.
Have you ever questioned God's ability to provide for you? Knowing our God should tell us that He is always willing, ready and able to provide for our needs. If you need more proof than the story of Jesus in the book of Mark, just come down to the Evansville Christian Life Center. There, you'll see how the body of Christ acts on behalf of Jesus to show God's provision and feed five thousand each month.
